*red wing salute* Flying through. Just got my column written and now waiting on our grand plan of the day to come in. I feel impressed to put my column out to you all today. don’t know who needs it. But pray it will give you hope.

How can it be forty years?

    Dear Carey,
How can it be that you will turn 40 Monday?
I can remember your first birthday like it was yesterday. It was also on a Monday. We celebrated it at the beach in Pascagoula.
The wind blew the surf onto the sand and the gulls called overhead.
Mama had your cake and ice cream in the beach park. Then we all went to the sand to play.
I knew it would be the last time we would spend time in that lovely spot.
Back at the apartment our things were packed, all but the table and beds.
Granddaddy would be there on Friday to put all our belongings onto a truck and trailer and haul us back to the hills.
But for a few minutes we enjoyed the sunset of the day as time marked your first year here on this earth.
Since that day, by your fortieth birthday, you have enjoyed 14,245 sunsets. Can you believe it?
And though we have not been together to share each and every sunset. my heart has always been with you on your special day.
This year I get to share it with you. This year you will share it with your son, who will turn 13 on the same day.
I know to you it just seems like yesterday when that special treasure was born … and yet forever because it seems you have lived a life time in his short 13 years.
But life with it’s many twists and turns really has managed to fly like that old guld coast wind that greeted you on that first morn.
Sometimes the winds of time and forces beyond us are working to tear our family to shreds.
And we seem consumed by the gale force winds that tear into our hearts.
If it weren’t for the staying hand of God and the prayers of the bedrock founders of this family I’m sure we would be in tatters right now.
But God has a plan for you and for every other member of this family no matter where they are.
And no matter if the salty tears sting our eyes like the ocean waves God is there, Jesus is there and all it takes is asking Him to help.
When the disciples, those hardened fishermen of the seas thought they were surely going to drown in a storm, they cried to Jesus, and He arose and said ‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind and the waves obeyed his voice.
He promised when He sent the Holy Spirit that we would do greater works than He.
So often we can’t see God for the storm.
It’s time to do business with Him and beg God to unleash His mighty power on the storms of our life.
Today you mark 40 years, tomorrow you will mark 60, storms aren’t leaving, and neither is God. May He speak peace be still to your heart on your special day.

    That was beautiful, Card!

I’m exhausted and sore from my weekend helping my Baby Girl move, but otherwise, doing fine.

Hope to catch up with everyone soon. In the meantime, y’all take care and remember the porch light is always on…

I played bridge today with the group at Corner Bakery but since I’ve never found anything at Corner Bakery worth eating, I didn’t join them for lunch today, but I did get tea and a latte free, so the management is very nice. Now if they would just upgrade their menu. I played bridge tonight and by the time I got there at 6:00 a.m. and hadn’t eaten a bite all day, I was getting hungry. This group usually only serves a dessert but our hostess had a bowl of good chicken salad and a plate of croissants and a block of cream cheese covered with this Heavenly praline sauce with ginger snaps to put that on. They she made a chocolate chip cheesecake with refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough. Then she brought out apple dumplings and they were delicious. The recipe for the Praline Sauce is as follows:

    2 sticks butter
    1 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans (or more)
Put everything in a boiler and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes and then let sit at room temperature until cool. Serve over an 8-oz. block of cream cheese and serve ginger snaps to put that on top of.

I just had an idea. What if I open a Facebook page called MRBA Recipes and post them all there so we could all have access to them? I don’t think we’re ever going to make it to a printer. Please give me your feedback.
