Class Notes: September 15, 2015

TUESDAY IS TEST DAY! Remember —  I don’t give makeups. You write a term paper on the impact of Social Media if you miss tomorrow. (it’s in the syllabus).  If you studied last Thursday’s post, you’ll do fine on the test. The test is 25 questions. Be on time.

And be thinking about our friends at Delta State.

  1. I am stunned to hear the disheartening news about Delta State. I also question the the safety of schools period. No matter how many sit ins we have, we’ll probably never know who or when something dangerous is going to happen.

I found out about this story through Instagram and the #PrayForDeltaState posts. After this discovery, I immediately texted one of my friends, a current student at DSU. He was fine, and I told him to be safe.

As hours passed, I got a news notification from my smart news app informing me that Professor Shannon Lamb shot and killed Professor Ethan Schmidt. I do not know either of the professors or the lady, Amy Prentiss, but I am a student.

As students, we do not want to question our safety on campus. I do not have a current resolution besides having everyone’s belongings searched, but this is definitely not good!

Of course, we cannot control everything life throws us, so I will continue to investigate and ponder on the word safety itself. In reality, we just have to be careful, and try to treat everyone right.

My prayers are going up for DSU, especially since it could’ve very well been JSU or any other university for that matter.
