    Mornin!

I hate to hear you are still feeling rough Boss! Summer colds are the worst!

  2. Barb says:

Morning! Sorry about your wakeful night!! I do not have the cough yet…hope I don’t start!

  3. Mrs. H says:

Back from our morning walk. Much cooler this morning.

  4. OldBopper says:

Mawnin’ y’all. Awoke around 4 am. Sorry to hear about the colds. That’s such a yucky feeling. Headed to the ball game tonight at Trustmark Park.

  5. OldBopper says:

My motorcycle helmet has a full face shield. I like the comfort it provides at the higher speeds and the protection from sand and gravel kicked up from the road. Found another reason to like it on Sunday. I was shat upon twice by birds with the poop hitting the shield each time. Yessir, I like that shield.

OB, I heard they are good, but what happens if you sneeze while having one on?

Question to any sound techies. If I want my back (surround speakers) to be louder do I set the distance as being closer or further away from the main sitting area? These are really stereo speakers built into the ceiling. I can hear the sounds but they are not as loud as I am looking for.

Good morning to everyone at 6:50 am I hope Marshall and Barb will start there recovery from the summer colds and start feeling better.

    • Mrs. H says:

I would guess that you would set the distance as farther (making them think they had to broadcast louder to make up the distance), but that’s just a guess.

And if you sneeze without a face shield, the wind is just going to blow it back in your face anyway. Remember that old adage: Don’t spit into the wind. Same principle, stronger wind!

    morning gang!

I know what i hate school starting so early – stomach bugs .. someone at work has already got it from their child and brought it with them to the office. Between kids in daycares through high school.. it just a breading ground….

I have a pounding headache already… this is going to be a long day.

Morning! Flying through! Got a river of words to write. Be back when they are done!

  9. The Real JB says:

It is just me but if I got hit twice with bird poo I would be asking some questions about what message God has for me…just saying.

    • Legal Eagle says:

It only happened to me one time. I was walking on the beach in Mississippi City and a lease tern flew over and let go and it landed between my nose and upper lip. Washing it off with salt water without getting it into my mouth was a real challenge.

  10. Legal Eagle says:

I’ve been invited to play bridge with the Tuesday group, so I’m going to be AFK until late this afternoon. Y’all play nice.

  11. Airwolf says:

Hey folks, I just realized I hadn’t checked in today.

OB I learned a hard lesson years ago about full shields and helmets. I had an open helmet with aviator sunglasses. One early morningIwas cruising to work on my Harley 74 and got a yellow jacket inside my helmet. I don’t know for sure how many times I was stung bit it was alot. After that only full face. I’ve been hit with everything from birdpoo to a small coke bottle that someone threw from a car.

Memphis was hopping yesterday on the eve of Elvis’ Birthday!

    • OldBopper says:

Ouch on the coke bottle. I have had a rock thrown up from the road. Scared the hell out of me.

The yellow jacket must have been awful!

  12. parrotmom says:

I have never thought of someone being hit by bird poop while riding before.

AW I think you meant the eve of his death in 1977. He was born January 8th, 1935. This is the day after my dads birthday and the year my mom was born. That is why I can remember that day.
Isn’t today the anniversary of Camille in 1969?

  13. OldBopper says:

PM, tell me what kind and model of receiver you are using to control the sound. On most receivers you can adjust the volume of the speakers individually.

If your receiver has a button or selection on the remote that says “Effect/Ch Sel”, click on that repeatedly to select the setting you wish to adjust. For the dimension that MrsH was talking about, you can find a setting in that selection to allow you to increase or decrease the dimension (the effect of the distance of the speaker to your chair).

If your receiver has a small microphone that it uses to automatically adjust the speakers, I suggest you do that, but your room must be totally quiet for it to properly work. It will emit sounds from each speaker and will adjust them individually based on their location. From that point, you have the option of increasing or decreasing the set volume for each individual speaker.

  14. Mrs. H says:

I know that Kathryn Stockett (“The Help”) is from Jackson. Does anyone know if her family owned Stockett’s Stables, on High Street close to the Coliseum? My grandparents lived on Spengler Street, a block over from High. We passed those stables on a weekly basis.

  15. Barb says:

Short day at work today! I was off Sunday and I am not off until Sunday. I am off Monday, also.

  16. parrotmom says:

OB it is a Pioneer receiver. The choices are to set the speakers as small or large in this case small. The other setting is as mrsh said for distance of the speaker to the chair. so is it correct to make it louder to set the ditance further away or closer to you. I think I have the front and center speakers correct at last.

    • OldBopper says:

Your surround speakers (rear) should be at a height about equal to your ears. They should not be farther away from the listening position than the front and center speakers. I operate a pretty good speaker system with a Pioneer receiver. My surround speakers are ear height when sitting and positioned 32 inches at a 45 degree angle behind our recliners. My center rear speaker is at about the same height but is 52 inches behind the recliners.

Sooooo, to answer your question, move them closer to the furniture.

If your receiver has a SBch button, press it and select the SBch ON position. It will give you 6.1 or 7.1 decoding when a 5.1 encoded sound is amplified.
(SBch stands for Surround Back channel.)

Also make sure you have the Midnight listening mode off.

  17. The Real JB says:

I was just a few weeks old when Camille came ashore.
