    TGIF, indeed!

CornPop, just read last nights comments. I’ll be praying for you and Orville. Hugs dear!!

    G’day mates.

From now til tuesday it will pretty interesting in this part of the world. Small town mardi gras is the best. New Roads has one of the better parades in the area, or so I’ve been told. I’ll have to work, but it’ll be fun just hearing about it.

Oysters were great last night @ Camile’s in Erwinville, OB.

Thoughts and prayers still for AW and PM.
And especially for CornPop and Orville.

    Y’all pass a good day.

It’s Friday and my time is running short for being home with PD. Man at the doctor appointments lined up for the weeks to come. WOW!!!

Prayers for everyone and thanks for the prayers for us.

    Love and hugs to all.

  6. Airwolf says:

    Morning!

Happy 88th birthday to my Dad. I wish he could be at home but I give thanks to God that I still have him.

Prayers to all that are sick.

  7. parrotmom says:

Happy 88th Birthday to AW’s Dad—Congrats to all the years, may he have a grand day regardless of what he is going through now.

  8. dhcoop says:

Do your hands get so dry this time of year that they actually feel like they are burning?? Or, maybe I’m just old. But my hands feel like they are cracking open!

    • parrotmom says:

Coop, winter/cold weather is always rough on my hands. No sooner than I put lotion on back under the water they go. Either my fingertips will crack open but now it is my knuckles.

    • GrammarGirl says:

I have that problem, which is why I start wearing gloves around September/October. People look at me like I’m crazy, but as soon as the first cool winds start blowing, my hands will crack and bleed. I’d rather get funny looks for wearing gloves.

      • OldBopper says:

My thumbs crack open. If I put some petroleum jelly on the places and cover with a band aid, the cracks clear up. But then they come back again. A neighbor said she went to a Dermatologist and he gave her something with steroids in it and she hasn’t had a problem since. Think I’m going to find out who she saw.

    • msblondie says:

my dad’s hands are like that – more so since he has gotten older and with diabeates. I have found 2 brands over the counter he likes and says works – Gold Bond and the other starts with an E. Vasline has one as well but he didn’t like the texture of it as much. They are a bit pricy but worth it to keep hands from being dry and cracking and cheaper than a doctor visit.

  9. Airwolf says:

    HEY, WASN’T THIS US?!!!

A little house with three bedrooms,
One bathroom and one car on the street.
A mower that you had to push
To make the grass look neat.

In the kitchen on the wall
    We only had one phone,
And no need for recording things,
    Someone was always home.

We only had a living room
    Where we would congregate,
    Unless it was at mealtime
In the kitchen where we ate.

We had no need for family rooms
    Or extra rooms to dine.
    When meeting as a family
Those two rooms would work out fine.

We only had one TV set
    And channels maybe two,
But always there was one of them
    With something worth the view.

For snacks we had potato chips
    That tasted like a chip.
    And if you wanted flavor
    There was Lipton’s onion dip.

    Store-bought snacks were rare
    ‘Cause mother liked to cook.
And nothing can compare to snacks
    In Betty Crocker’s book.

    Weekends were for family trips
    Or staying home to play.
We all did things together —
Even go to church to pray.

When we did our weekend trips
    Depending on the weather,
No one stayed at home because
    We liked to be together.

    Sometimes we would separate
To do things on our own,
But we knew where the others were
    Without our own cell phone.

    Then there were the movies
    With your favorite movie star,
    And nothing can compare
To watching movies in your car.

    Then there were the picnics
At the peak of summer season,
Pack a lunch and find some trees
    And never need a reason.

    Get a baseball game together
With all the friends you know.
    Have real action playing ball,
    And no game video.

    Remember when the doctor
Used to be the family friend,
    And didn’t need insurance
    Or a lawyer to defend

The way that he took care of you
Or what he had to do,
Because he took an oath and strived
To do the best for you.

    Remember going to the store
    And shopping casually,
And when you went to pay for it
    You used your own money?

Nothing that you had to swipe
    Or punch in some amount,
And remember when the cashier person
    Had to really count?

    The milkman used to go
    Go from door to door
For just a few cents more
    Than going to the store.

There was a time when mailed letters
    Came right to your door
Without a lot of junk mail ads
    Sent out by every store.

The mailman knew each house by name
And knew where it was sent.
There were not loads of mail addressed
    To “present occupant.”

There was a time when just one glance
Was all that it would take,
And you would know the kind of car,
    The model and the make.

    They didn’t look like turtles
    Trying to squeeze out every mile;
They were streamlined, white walls, fins
    And really had some style.

One time the music that you played
    Whenever you would jive
Was from a vinyl, big-holed record
    Called a forty-five.

The record player had a post
To keep them all in line
And then the records would drop down
And play one at a time.

Oh sure, we had our problems then,
    Just like we do today,
    And always we were striving,
    Trying for a better way.

Oh, the simple life we lived
Still seems like so much fun,
How can you explain a game,
Just kick the can and run?

And why would boys put baseball cards
    Between bicycle spokes?
And for a nickel, red machines
    Had little bottled Cokes?

This life seemed so much easier
    And slower in some ways.
    I love the new technology
But I sure do miss those days.

So time moves on and so do we
    And nothing stays the same.
But I sure love to reminisce
    And walk down memory lane.

  10. OldBopper says:

Afternoon gang. Went to the eye doctor for an exam this morning. Have cataract surgery scheduled for Feb. 29. Looking forward to it. I realized something was wrong when I couldn’t read the football scores on my 60″ tv screen.

  11. Molly says:

Hi. Lots going on at work today.

CP … {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I wish there was something I could do for you and Orville to make it better.

Coop, OB, I’ve heard that Outdoor Hands cream works wonders. In Brandon, you can find it at Polk’s and Brandon Discount Drugs. You can check their website at http://www.outdoorhands.com for more information and other locations to purchase.

  12. OldBopper says:

Molly, that reply under AW’s post was intended for you. Stupid computer user!!

  13. CornPop says:

Lumbar puncture done. Have Orville home & doing my best to keep him in bed, laying down & taking it easy, as doctor ordered. Threatened to tie him down to the bed, but he didn’t take that as a threat, so we reached a compromise. Anyway, he’s doing well and I am hanging in there. He has an appointment with his oncologist for Wednesday afternoon. We will have the results at that time and discuss the game plan. I sneaked a quick peak at his chart and he now has a diagnosis of CNS Lymphoma, which I’m pretty sure means that the lymphoma is now in his central nervous system (explains his symptoms that have been progressively getting worse). To say that I am worried and scared would be an understatement.

However, Orville and I have complete confidence in his oncologist – she has been amazing to this point and we know that she’ll do everything she can treat him successfully moving forward!

  14. OldBopper says:

Hugs and prayers for you both!

  15. DWB810 says:

Prayers for CP, AW, OB, PM, PD —- oh my this list is so long.
Father, please be with my friends named and unnamed. Give the nurses and doctors the knowledge and talent to treat them. Please give all the care-givers the love to endure even in their pain. Amen

  16. Legal Eagle says:

Too bad a certain preacher isn’t forgiving enough or tolerant of other people’ s beliefs to join in on that one. It must be a burden to be so righteous and pig headed.

I went to the movies this afternoon at the library and saw Moneygame and really enjoyed it.

One of our card players called another a liar and a cheat yesterday and I have a call in to her to tell her she isn’t welcome to come back. The gall of some people just amazes me.

  17. parrotmom says:

Evening LegalE. Some people can be something else sometimes.

  18. OldBopper says:

We had a great Mardi Gras party at church tonight. Good food, good entertainment, and a good band. I’m tired.

  19. OldBopper says:

    8:53 am…..Happy soggy Saturday!!
