I’m practicing my paper airplane skills. Got to make one while I’m pretending to be a pilot this morning in SS.

Em is having her friends over this evening for movie night. We’ll be having pizza for dinner tonight. My husband is THRILLED that there will be an additional 4 ladies on the premises watching a chick flick.

Good Sunday Morning, I hope all is well with everyone. Love, hugs and prayers to you all.

  3. Airwolf says:

Morning! Headed to church. Hope you all have a great day!

  4. Legal Eagle says:

Good morning! I dreamed I was eaten by a giant oyster.

  5. OldBopper says:

Went to early church. Came home and ate a bowl of cereal. Got wheelbarrow and gloves and proceeded to pick up “sticks” in the front yard. Did two wheelbarrows full and now have come in to get in front of a fan to cool down. Still have the backyard to do.

    Afternoon!

Been doing housework and washing clothes. It’s too hot to do much outdoors.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

  7. parrotmom says:

It is definitely hot outside today. OB take it easy and cool down often. Hmmm!!! What to do the rest of the day. I have a headache do I really feel like anything now?

  8. Mrs. H says:

I may have to tie-dye my Mad Science lab coat. Something in the storage tote leaked and started a mildew outbreak.

  9. Molly says:

Evenin. Not much going on over my way. Kiddo is at work. Hardly ever see her anymore. Unless, of course, I stay up till she gets home, which was midnight Friday night. Didn’t quite make it until then. Almost, but just couldn’t hold my eyes open those last few minutes.
I saw the discussion on yesterday’s FFA about Alabama’s mascot being an elephant (known as Big AL). Here’s the story behind that, as told on Alabama’s website:

“The story of how Alabama became associated with the “elephant” goes back to the 1930 season when Coach Wallace Wade had assembled a great football team.

On October 8, 1930, sports writer Everett Strupper of the Atlanta Journal wrote a story of the Alabama-Mississippi game he had witnessed in Tuscaloosa four days earlier. Strupper wrote, “That Alabama team of 1930 is a typical Wade machine, powerful, big, tough, fast, aggressive, well-schooled in fundamentals, and the best blocking team for this early in the season that I have ever seen. When those big brutes hit you I mean you go down and stay down, often for an additional two minutes.

“Coach Wade started his second team that was plenty big and they went right to their knitting scoring a touchdown in the first quarter against one of the best fighting small lines that I have seen. For Ole Miss was truly battling the big boys for every inch of ground.

“At the end of the quarter, the earth started to tremble, there was a distant rumble that continued to grow. Some excited fan in the stands bellowed, ‘Hold your horses, the elephants are coming,’ and out stamped this Alabama varsity.

“It was the first time that I had seen it and the size of the entire eleven nearly knocked me cold, men that I had seen play last year looking like they had nearly doubled in size.”

Strupper and other writers continued to refer to the Alabama linemen as “Red Elephants,” the color referring to the crimson jerseys.

The 1930 team posted an overall 10-0 record. It shut out eight opponents and allowed only 13 points all season while scoring 217. The “Red Elephants” rolled over Washington State 24-0 in the Rose Bowl and were declared National Champions.”

    Now you know.

Thanks Molly for the info on the Mascot for Alabama. I remember reading years ago where Roll Tide came from, but the first I heard about the mascot.

  12. parrotmom says:

AW I hope you are all ok now? Where that weather come from?

  13. Legal Eagle says:

I am so stuffed and hot, I’m miserable. We picked up some ribs and chicken quarters and stuff and went over to our friend BD’s (see: MRBA Braves game attendees). His wife cooked baked beans and we (I use that term very loosely) baked potatoes. BD cooked all of the meat on his grill and we sat outside from about 2:30 this afternoon and watched the grill and then ate outside. I was so hot, I thought I was going to melt and so sleepy, I had to go sit in the car and put the seat back. We are finally home, sweet home. Yawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. parrotmom says:

7:00 am. Momday, good morning, hope you all have a safe and fun filled Labor Day.

  15. OldBopper says:

Wow! It is Monday. I was looking for the Tuesday FFA. Good morning y’all. AW I hope your rain has departed and you get some sunshine today. I’m guessing MrsH and other coasties are still able to post. There’s still a lot of people without electricity.

Planning to cut grass this morning. Y’all have a good one and enjoy your extra day off.

  16. Mrs. H says:

Overcast here. We’re headed to the coast to cut the grass at Mr. H’s mom’s house.

Em’s friends left sometime after Mr. H and I went to bed. Pizza, movies, and red velvet cupcakes and lots of laughing. Most of that same bunch will be getting together some time today to study for their college algebra midterm. Not mixing work and play, I guess.
