Same here, hope you all have a wonderful Hump Day.

Good morning! PQ is getting ready to depart for Arkansas for a week with two other ladies. They are going to Mountain View and will stay a Momma’s guest cabin. There’s a big artsy/craftsy thing going on up there this week. I’m staying here to sit with the cats and motorcycles. :~)

    • Airwolf says:

Rambette wants to visit Mountain View!

      • OldBopper says:

It’s a neat little town. Go to the Chamber of Commerce’s website and you can get loads of information. Blanchard Springs caverns and the Ozark Folk center are must see’s. Take the time to go downtown about dusk and listen to all the folks playing music. There’s usually 4 or 5 groups playing….free and no amplification is used. The next big event is Bean Fest in October. Pulls in loads of people and the outhouse races are a hoot.

  3. Mrs. H says:

I love big artsy craftsy things! I listened to a knitting podcast (I know!!) yesterday about a fair in Monterrey, CA, where the ladies had attended a fleece auction. Not enough sheep around here for that.

    Have a good day, y’all.

  4. Marshall Ramsey says:

Mountain View is wonderful. Spoke at the University up there last spring and enjoyed some time on the White River and Buffalo River.

  5. dhcoop says:

    Mornin!

Me and lil sis enjoyed some time in and around Mountain View several years ago. Beautiful area! Good memories…

My Peanut is 11 years old today. Hard to believe! She’s growing up too fast.

  6. Molly says:

Mornin. Clucky I saw your comment about calculators being issued with textbooks. Around here, they don’t even get textbooks. Not enough to go around. Kiddo has a chemistry book this year and that’s it. History book is online, and other classes just have books in the classroom, but none to send home.

    • dhcoop says:

That’s crazy!! What if they don’t have access to the internet??

      • Molly says:

That is never taken into consideration. I asked one time when a teacher was posting tests online that had to be taken outside of school hours. I was told “the public library has internet access.” Yes, but these were 8th graders. Last I checked, 8th graders don’t generally have drivers licenses. And parents are not always available (and many are unwilling) to take kids to the library during the library’s limited hours of operation. Schools do not put the kids first, at least that’s been my experience in Rankin County. We have to make sure that the superintendent has a fancy $6M office building and that teachers are not inconvenienced in any way. Kids are just a nuisance and should not be considered. Had I known just how bad the “best school district in the state” is, not only would I have not moved to Rankin County, I would have moved far, far away from Mississippi.

        • pncpnthr says:

I just do not understand. If I were in school today, living with Mom & Dad, I would not have high- speed internet and their dial up is sketchy, at best! Makes me sick! But then, all the adds today say “visit our website for more info”…Huh????

    • Marica says:

Hardly a day goes by that I’m not very thankful I don’t have school-aged kids anymore.

  7. pncpnthr says:

Morning. Planning an outing with Mom today, just rambling around town. The dogs are sick of me (cats too, I think). They think they have to follow me around the house as if something may happen & they miss it. If I’m not here they nap…I guess….

    • Molly says:

My pups are worn out at the end of the day when I’m home. They are my little shadows and I’m sure they sleep if I’m not there. On a work day, when I get home at lunch, they are curled up in their beds sleeping soundly.

  8. msblondie says:

    morning gang!

Molly it isn’t just Rankin schools that are that way – Hinds is the same way. One copy of books for classroom if you are lucky. The smaller advance classes might have a a book. But a lot of the teachers are doing stuff on line now. It is suppose to prepare them for college since that is how alot of the college professors do it.

Being back in the job hunt, I am finding people don’t interact with people any more. All application processes is done online. You fill out all of this information, then have to wait. You don’t even get a contact person to see how it is going. It is fustrating in the least.

Everyone have a good day! I have about 10 applications sitting open waiting on me to finish now. My fingers are sore from all the typing.. cause it is all the same information just in different formats.. even though you send in the resume.

But please keep me in mind if you hear anyone looking for someone in IT or Business Office.

    • Mrs. H says:

Ms. B, our church secretary is retiring at the end of the month. Are you thinking of moving in our direction? We are really looking for someone who is NOT a member of this church, just so that the Ministry Assistant isn’t bombarded on Sundays with requests for “little” favors.

  9. Legal Eagle says:

Happy hump day! I played bridge Monday and then was asked to fill in with the Monday night group so, after playing from noon till 5:30, I drove to the retired judge’s house and played from 6:00 to 10:30. I got such terrible cards that I won low score again and won my money back.

I had an eye appointment yesterday and finally heard all about my stopped up blood vessel in my right eye that I had the 6 shots to help. What it boils down to is that I’m lucky to have an eye much less any sight left in it.

I’m off to Brandon in a little bit. I hope everyone has a great day. My daughter in Oxford and two of her children were riding with someone yesterday and the woman managed to run into an apartment complex. Nobody is hurt, just the building, and they don’t know yet if the gas pedal stuck or what.

  10. Airwolf says:

Morning! I’ve been fighting this bronchitis! A couple of butt shots, inhaler and strong antibiotic! I think I’ve turned the corner. I’ve been trimming shrubs being careful not to get too hot!

We don’t have the book problems up here. Bear has a set of books that stay at school and a set that stays at home! If we had that probl the Supt of Education would not be secure in his job!

  11. GrammarGirl says:

Well, I have to defend the Clinton Public School District in this talk about schools. They aren’t perfect, but, then again, nobody is. But I do feel like they genuinely care about the children we entrust to them. If I have one complaint, it’s that a LOT of emphasis is put on state testing, sometimes to the detriment of good ole fashioned learning. BUT, I understand that is a trickle-down effect. That’s what determines how much attention (read MONEY) you get from federal sources, yada, yada, yada. But besides that, I have always found the teachers and administrators to go above and beyond to help with any problems you may have. My children receive textbooks (real, hardcover textbooks) to keep at home for homework so they don’t have to lug them back and forth. There is a class set for use at school. There is a small-town feel even though every class is about 300-350 students. The Clinton community is heavily invested in its school system. Parents are involved and supportive. It may not have the title, but for those of us who know first-hand, it is the “best school system in the state.” Two perfect ACT scores last year and the awards go on from there–everything from academics to auto mechanics to athletics. It can be found in Mississippi!

  12. Mrs. H says:

Our voters turned down the bond issue in George County yesterday. It’s no wonder our drop-out rate is very high. I wouldn’t have minded the slight rise in property taxes, as long as I could see where it was going and was going to see the benefits. It’s the federal rise in taxes that don’t seem to bring any benefits to anyone.

  13. GrammarGirl says:

Our last three bond issues passed with 85+%. Like I said, the community is heavily invested in its schools, and it makes a huge difference.

  14. Molly says:

The bond issue failed miserably here a year ago. The complaints were that too much money was to be allocated to athletics. And while that may be true, the schools need a LOT of work and a couple need to be replaced. Northwest Rankin High is falling apart and is not nearly big enough for the 1800 students who attend.
Kiddo is in 11th grade and has been in NWR schools since kindergarten. Of all those years, I can count on one hand the number of GOOD teachers she has had, and it only takes one little finger to count the OUTSTANDING teacher she’s had. That teacher was from 2nd grade. She truly cared and really knew how to teach. Others may care (although I can name quite a few who seem to not care at all), but most don’t have a clue how to teach. I feel as if I have homeschooled Kiddo since kindergarten. I don’t know why we bothered to send her to school every day.

  15. Mrs. H says:

The George County Times came out today.
Baby Jane has the entire top half of the front page :)
AND I stopped at Sonic for lunch after my hair cut. BJ’s grandmother pulled in beside me. I could tell that there was someone else in the front seat, but the angle was wrong for me to see who. When I spoke to the grandmother, BJ’s mommy leaned back in the seat to say hello. She had a dentist appointment and so was out and about. I’m sure her sister was at the house with the babe.

  16. OldBopper says:

Glad we don’t have children in the school system anymore. When we moved here 20 years ago, Clinton had THE school system, and Rankin was close behind. Madison County was struggling. Tried to buy a home in Clinton but lost it in a backdoor real estate deal. So we bought in Rankin. We moved here from DeSoto County. Regardless of what the substandard teachers in Rankin said, DeSoto County was miles ahead of Rankin. But the teachers gave our daughter a hard time because she wasn’t raised in the Rankin County system. Bottom line, she went one year in the Rankin system and then started college on a scholarship after completing the 11th grade. Today DeSoto county is the largest system in the state and has NO low or under performing schools. Clinton is the best in this area followed by Madison County.

    • Molly says:

I’ve been worried about Kiddo for years. It has never seemed she was being taught what she should have been. Things I was taught in elementary school were touched on in middle school, if at all. There’s a lot of information I feel she has missed out on. I’m scared to death she won’t be ready for college.

  17. Mrs. H says:

I’m hiding in my office. The GA girls are eating dinner at church after cleaning a lady’s yard. It’s LOUD in there!

  18. Legal Eagle says:

Don’t forget to fix a “go” plate before you leave.

  19. msblondie says:

after a day of applications.. I am making chocolate hearts and chocolate wedding cake suckers for C’s wedding. October 6th will be here fast. but I have had to wait for it cool down some.. my chocolate would not set up even in the freezer. now it is doing beautiful.

  20. parrotmom says:

Evening everyone. A busy evening for me today with church stuff this afternoon. Nice to have a real person to acturally talk with. Nothing against all of you, but I acturally had someone to converse with and use my voice for a change. Not like talking work on the phone for 8 hours aday.

MrsH thanks for the updates on the Baby, I need to go look for that site.

Very surprised about the school issues around. I knew the bond issue didn’t pass last year but I thought NW Rankin was supposed to be a really good school system. I guess it depends on which end you are looking at.

EVeryone enjoy the rest of the evening.
