Monday Free-For-All

Going to start this back up daily so you guys don’t have to search around for the FFA. I know attendance has dropped, but I love reading your comments and want to keep a place going for an amazing community.

  1. Mrs. H says:

I hate to start this off on a tragic note, but I seem to be early here after such a long absence. Do y’all remember the miracle of Baby Jane? I came into the office this morning and Dr. T was on the phone. I could tell that something awful had happened, but I couldn’t tell who, just the family that was involved. I fully expected him to tell me that little Jane had passed. Oh my. . . It was her mother.

    I am speechless.

Rachel babysat for all my girls. Of all the women qualified to care for a little girl like Jane, Rachel met and exceeded the task on every level. Heaven has gained a true saint today, much to our loss.

Please pray for her husband Charlie and sister Charlotte, as well as the rest of her large, loving, close-knit family. And for Jane, who will miss her the most.

  2. Clucky says:

Oh no! I just read the other day about Baby Jane getting her first haircut. How terrible for this family and that little girl.

  3. Molly says:

Oh, wow! So sorry to hear that MrsH.

  4. Clucky says:

Marshall, thanks for bringing back the FFA!

Trying to psych myself up to start sorting through the memories. This won’t be easy.

  5. Airwolf says:

I just got back from Memphis with Baby Darling. She had a doctors appointment today.

Mrs. H I’m so sorry to hear that news.

  6. Mrs. H says:

Em got home from her summer camp job last night. Her move-in day at MS State is Thursday. The camp made a mistake with booking one last retreat for this coming weekend after all the summer help had vacated! Naturally Em has told them she’ll come back to be the deep-water lifeguard Friday. We’re trying to see if we can get the apartments to let her move in a day early. It shouldn’t be a big deal since one of her roommates is in the Maroon Band and is already moved in. If it was cleaned up early for her, it should be good to go.

AW, hope Baby Darling is all good.

  7. blues4you says:

    Good afternoon.

That’s very sad news MrsH. My condolences go out to you and the family.

Even with bad news, it’s good to see you on here.

  8. blues4you says:

Pokes head back in/oh, and thanks for keeping this place open for us, Marshall. I consider it a very special place.

  9. DWB810 says:

    Hello Everyone!

So sorry to hear that news MrsH

I am requesting prayers for my beloved StL. The rioting and looting are beyond understanding, This event is tragic for all involved and for this wonderfully diverse city. All affected by this event will be changed forever.

  10. Cardinallady says:

  11. Cardinallady says:

Now I know why God kept me up this late. Remind me to tell you about the cat and the jar today sometime. Good night

  12. blues4you says:

pokes head in/dang cardinal, you were up all night/hope you get some rest today

  13. Cardinallady says:

Mornin. I’ve gotta put some decent clothing on and get to work I think folks would frown at pink pajamas with coffee pots all over them

Yes Blues it is sad about Robin Williams. Depression is a sad state to stay in. The best way to battle it is to sit down and write thank you notes to folks who have meant a lot to you. Sounds simple and trite but God uses the simple to confound the wise

  14. Mrs. H says:

CL, What about the cat and the jar?

  15. Airwolf says:

It’s still hot outside, I thought it was cooler outside. Been out mowing all morning. Somehow the grass never stops growing.

Tragic death of Robin Williams! Depression is a terrible disease!

You folks stay cool. I need to find some lunch!

  16. cardinallady says:

Okay, this morning about 3 am or so I heard a little thump in the house. The hall light came on so I knew Jon Lee was awake. I sensed my dog beside my bed in the floor and he had this intense look on his face. I switched my phone light on and there was my little tri-colored cat with a jar on her head.

The neck was fitted down over her neck, it was just big enough for her to poke her head into but her ears wouldn’t let her take it back out again. I hopped up and met Jon in the hall because he had heard her thumping down the hall with the jar on her head.

I tried to wrangle the jar off but only stretched her neck, so I went to the kitchen and put olive oil around her neck but to no avail. She was suffocating her eyes were dilated. I looked at Jon, “the only thing I can do is break the jar,” I said. The big adjustable wrench was sitting on the dishwasher. I have this wooden stool that I stand at the sink on so I can be high enough. I put the cat on it and gave the jar two good whacks and it smashed to pieces. I was never more so grateful. I was afraid the neck would stay on her and I’d have to bang on it some more. She was a little traumatized from the banging and nearly suffocated to death. It took a bit for her eyes to loose their dilation.

But she recovered quickly and was ready to sneak back into the house before sun up. She even came and curled up on my pillow.

  17. cardinallady says:

Thinking of Marshall’s shark cartoon, how many of yall are watching shark week? Jon and I have been. it has been interesting. From a monster great white that folks think is 40 feet long to a monster hammerhead that they are sure is 20 feet long.

They have cool laser beams that they can use to measure sharks in the water. It is awesome.

  18. dhcoop says:

Hey, y’all. I have a lot of catching up to do. I also needed to touch base with some people I can count on. Much love and hugs to all!

  19. blues4you says:

  20. Cardinallady says:

Coop!!!!!! I’d best see your froggy face every day even if you just hop through
You know we all love you. Please let us know how u are doing.

I don’t do Facebook. no time. If I went for everything folks thought I should I’d never have time to actually do my job. That’s why I like this room. I can talk without having to clamour over the whole World Wide Web

Incidentally remind me to tell y’all about my bird story from yesterday. I’ve gotta get rolling to work

  21. Molly says:

Mornin. Do you think your poor cat learned its lesson, Card? That poor baby was probably scared to death. The only thing we’ve caught our pups sticking their heads in was the food bag. Came home one day and saw the Purina bag out on the floor and a dachshund behind with a wagging tail sticking out. He was one happy dog!

    Good to see you, Coop.

  22. Clucky says:

Hey strangers! (Granted I’m the strangest, but I digress…)

Cooked cube steaks and mashed potatoes and gravy. I made Mama’s gravy!

  23. Cardinallady says:

*sniff * mmmmmm clucky I knew I smelled something good in the air! Any leftovers?
We had supper at church. Then I taught my two boys about the three he few children that were thrown I to the fire and walked out. It was fun. We have this fire made with Christmas lights and red celaphane I put it under a big piece of brown paste board that served as the fiery furnace. We sat under it beside the fire while I told the story. It was fun. The. We played tiddlywinks

Alright I need to get some sleep. Live y’all good night

  24. Cardinallady says:

Good morning. It is a beautiful fall like day in my neck of the woods. August is feeling like sept. I believe we are going to have a long winter up here

  25. blues4you says:

    Good afternoon.

Low humidity is nice here in western Louisiana. Temp is still pretty high.

Looks like I have a couple of free hours in Leesville, La this afternoon. I need to make a walmart/market basket run I reckon. Good times y’all.

  26. Cardinallady says:

Have a praise report. My first cousins baby was born with her intestines outside her body she was critical at birth. Doctors were aware of the problem before birth so they had a team from Le Bonheur on hand. Was worse than they thot. She was rushed to Memphis
She was put on all prayer lists. Today drs said she is doing so well she will get to come home two weeks earlier than expected. That’s GOD

  27. Molly says:

Mornin. Happy to hear the baby is doing even better than expected, Card.
I took the day off yesterday and visited with a couple of cousins who were in town. One down from Massachusetts and the other from Montgomery. All my cousins are a bit older than I am, and didn’t live close to us, so we haven’t been super close, but I have kept up with these 2 somewhat over the years. We had a very nice visit.

  28. cardinallady says:

Flying through. Having a great day. Not super busy and getting stuff done at the same time. Going to take a picture of a little kid with a cow this afternoon to promote our fair.
Molly I know what you man about cousins. I’m older than al cousins so I’m closer to the cousins who are first and second removed.

  29. Mrs. H says:

We delivered Em to Starkville yesterday. I hate that I had to miss Rachel’s funeral, but we were able to go to the wake Wednesday evening. Em had to be there yesterday because she’s got one last weekend job as lifeguard at Waukaway Springs today and tomorrow. Classes start Monday. El’s young man is home for the weekend. He is attending The Highlands College in Birmingham. It’s for minister types and includes intern opportunities. Mr. H and I see this as a test of their relationship. So often when one party goes off to school, the relationship doesn’t survive.

I think my chocolate skillet cake is cool enough for me to make the frosting. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

  30. Cardinallady says:

Chocolate skillet cake? Ill bet that tasted good. Today is very pretty here. I’ve been lazily enjoying my bed and a cup of coffee. My dog is my alarm clock. He came to my bed around dawn and when I didn’t get up to let Him out he set about chewing on a plastic bottle. Do u know how loud and annoying that can be? He won.

I’m going to go to a couple or three yard sales today. Not looking for anything in particular. Just going to look. My neighbor a couple of driveways down is having one. I always go see her. It’s a great way to visit her. Perhaps that’s why CardinalSon wasn’t so enthused about going with me. But I like to go while it is still cool and coffee tastes good while I’m looking

  31. Cardinallady says:

Sunday night rain has blown through. The air is fresh I’m reading a book called boss Jaybire and me be jimmy Reed. It’s good

  32. Cardinallady says:

My sister said yesterday was the 45 anniversary of Camille. That hurricane changed the coast forever. Well until Katrina came along nine years ago

  33. blues4you says:

strolls in/sniffs/eeewwww somebody microwaved fish on friday and threw the leftovers in the garbage/ puts donuts on counter/makes a pot of coffee/hauls out the trash/opens windows/goes to bathroom and fetches a bottle of lysol/sprays liberally around the break room/gets coffe/grabs a donut/goes to work

  34. Molly says:

Mornin. Hope the Lysol helped the smell in the break room, Blues. I could use a donut about right now.
Kiddo’s fall semester at Hinds started this morning. All I have heard from her is that parking is awful. She got used to empty parking lots during the summer.
Kiddo and I went to the drive-thru safari near Delhi, LA Saturday. It was fun. They weren’t running the covered wagon Saturday so we had to take our car (Kiddo’s car, actually). One very long-horned something took a swipe at the door with those horns. I was driving and had to swerve off the path to avoid him. A zebra bit the door, but I don’t think he left any noticeable marks. They are raising a baby kangaroo and I thought Kiddo was going to smuggle him out to the car and bring him home.
