Mary Beth West is a brilliant public relations professional based in
Maryville, TN (near Knoxville) — and she’s also married to my cousin
Charles (from my grandmother’s side of the family.) All the Wests are
great people (I’m proud to be related to them) — but this blog she wrote about my situation blew me away it was so awesome. Thanks, Mary Beth. and I couldn’t agree more with Observation #3:
Why ask why? Just get on with it! That’s the best remedy for anyone stuck in this kind of scenario . . . get your prospects in order and start charting a new course. Fresh wind fills your sails when you effectively distance yourself from the negativity of a past situation and take the steps to a different livelihood – however modest or bold those initial steps might be. In many cases, the entire episode can lead you to new paths of opportunity – better ones, more lucrative, more satisfying – that you never would have found before.
Very well said. You asked on FB a couple of days ago about a personal situation we had that was very bad and turned out very good, and I wanted to share and didn’t, so I’m using this similar post to comment on that. I was wrongly accused in a public and awful way about something, but that led to a career change where I met the most wonderful people and have had lots of room for advancement. I don’t miss the BS of the old place AT ALL. My child was cut from a sports team where she had poured her heart and soul with very little in return from her coaches. But they did us a favor. She is on a new team now and is receiving excellent coaching and having fun again. We all are.
I’m so impressed with your positive attitude (and the 59 items). I’ll be watching as I have for years and hope for the best for you and your family.
Great advice. And makes getting up in the morning so much easier when there is something to build to look forward to.
Thanks, Marshall — and thanks to your blog’s readers for the positive comments! It’s rare to find such a great example of someone doing all the right things in the face of such a challenging situation, but you’re doing it, Marshall — and I know that example is going to help others.
