Thursday Free-For-All

Today is Thursday isn’t it?  Got in from Oxford late, late last night.  Fell asleep three times in the last 20 miles and thankfully the textured pavement on the side of the shoulder did its job. I’m still alive.

    LEagle, what are angel biscuits?

This is a recipe I got off the internet, but haven’t tried. If you google angel biscuits, quite a few sites pop up.

      Angel Biscuits

Yeast in the dough makes this biscuit recipe lighter than most.
      Ingredients:
•1 package active dry yeast (about .25 ounce)
      •1/4 cup warm water, about 110° F.
      •2 cups warmed buttermilk, about 110° F.
      •5 to 5 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
      •1/4 cup granulated sugar
      •2 teaspoons baking powder
      •1 teaspoon baking soda
      •1 tablespoon salt
      •3/4 cup chilled shortening
      •4 tablespoons chilled butter
      •melted butter
      Preparation:
Dissolve the yeast in the 1/4 cup of warm water. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal, with some small pea-size pieces of fat. Stir in yeast mixture and buttermilk, blending well. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead with floured hands just a few turns. Pat into a round about 1/2-inch thick. Cut with 2- to 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutters. Place cut out biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover with a dish cloth and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes. Bake at 400° for about 15 to 20 minutes. Brush tops with the melted butter while still hot. Makes about 2 to 3 dozen angel biscuits, depending on size.

    Mornin!

Goodness, Marshall! I’m glad you are okay!

    Absolutely gorgeous weather this morning.

    Morning everyone.
Marshall so glad your Angel was with you while driving late last night.

    Everyone have a good day.

  4. Mrs. H says:

Have you considered a traveling companion, MR? Someone to take on the road with you to keep you awake….

  5. Molly says:

Mornin. I had trouble getting in here yesterday. Kept giving me an error message.
Kiddo got on an Amtrak train late yesterday afternoon and should be arriving in Chicago in about a half hour. She’s on a school trip and will return Sunday. She said she didn’t get any sleep last night and they won’t see their hotel rooms until 10:00 tonight. She’s gonna be one tired kiddo! But I know they will have loads of fun!

    morning gang!

MR so glad your Angel was with you last night.

Good Morning Everyone. Just dropping for a minute.

  8. Legal Eagle says:

Marshall, you need to take someone with you to help drive or spend the night out of town. You have too many people depending on you to be out taking needless chances. None of us is invincible even though we sometimes think we are. And that’s about all I’ve got to say about that.

  9. Legal Eagle says:

Okay, the boss man has spoken and now it’s up to us. I just got a message from him on Facebook that said, “Right now, the only date that is out on the picnic is May 19th. Where ever the group would like the picnic, I will be there.”

If we go to Crystal Springs, we can go on May 5th or June 23rd or June 30th, but we are going to have to act quickly to reserve the round house. It’s $50.00 in cash, check or money order, payable at City Hall, and of course, we will take up a collection to repay the one who puts up the fee.

  10. Legal Eagle says:

Since I’m a big old blog killer anyway, I’m going to play bridge and will be AFK until later this afternoon.

  11. Old Bopper says:

Afternoon! Boss, when that happens, set your phone alarm for an hour then get off the road and sleep for that hour. Glad the angels were with you.

Boule and I went over the Delta, La. to get a Mega Millions lottery ticket. The jackpot is $500 million and chances of winning are about one in 300 million. If you don’t have a ticket, you don’t have a chance. Anyway, it was a nice morning for a ride.

I think any of the dates are good for me.

Angels have certainly been looking out after us. Yesterday a man came to replace our gas meter with a new one. He said they do that about once every 20 years. The only thing we have with a pilot light is a hot water heater in an upstairs closet. The water heater generates so much heat, we have always left that closet door open. When the gas man relit the heater, he checked for gas leaks. There were none. Then he struck a match and put it in the space between the top of the heater and the beginning of the air vent. The match blew out. That signaled a defective air vent which is a huge fire hazard. Long story short, I replaced the vent cap on the roof and still defective. This morning I attacked the vent from the bottom and found the equivalent of a gas fired brick stopping up the vent. It was an old dirt dobber nest that must have been there since before we bought the house. Now we can close the closet door and feel much safer. I appreciate that man checking out the water heater.

I do not offer an available date because I never know what will develop with softball, and do not want you scheduling around me in case our plans change at the last minute. But know that if I can at all be there, I will be–with a big ole not yo mama’s banana pudding! Place doesn’t matter to me, although Crystal Springs is closer to me. But Roosevelt is closer for other MRBAers, so truly doesn’t matter.

    Evenin!

Skylar is in the bottom 3. Not good.

  14. dhcoop says:

    Safe!

  15. Barb says:

Thanks for the recipe, LE. I figured they were sweet.

  16. Barb says:

OB, would you believe that CNN sent me a breaking news e-mail about the Mega Millions? It is at $540 million, with chances to win with a $1 ticket 175 million to 1. It is the largest jackpot of any kind, ever!
