Boss, if you actually wrote those comments with your cartoon, then you are way out of line. I can’t believe you would listen to hearsay. I’m disappointed.
Got to go get Family Reunion food supplies. And get oil changed, wash and vacuumed. There is no more grass that needs cutting!! A black cloud came up over me and rained hard for about 10 minutes yesterday. I kept mowing. Then I ran out of gas. I knew that I would, but I wanted to wait for Em to get home with the truck before I went to fill the gas cans. But I got it all done so it’ll will be fine for the weekend.
Good morning. Just talked with PQ. She and her friends are having fun in Mountain View. “Off the Beaten Path” starts today. That’s where people are invited to meet with artisans at their homes to see their workshops, and view and purchase goods. PQ, being a craft lover, thoroughly enjoys the occasion.
Back to the Board of Supervisors this morning. I’m getting on the list to speak and I hope that young dude from the C-L is there because he’s going to leave with a few blisters on his butt. Maybe today he will quit playing games on his Apple computer and actually listen for a change.
Hope everybody has a good day and an even better weekend.
Blues good to hear from you, sorry about that type Internet virus :(
AW sorry you are still battling the crud even after a shot and meds for what a week or longer. Your friend fought a tough battle for a long time but sometimes quantity of life is worth the battle. Prayers.
Morning. Meg slept good last night and I believe we are on speaking terms again after she snubbed me most of the day yesterday. It will start all over again in a bit, she’s got to go for another vet visit. I’ll just have to give more back-scratches & belly rubs.
Hope everyone has a good day. AW & Blues, hope you feel better soon. No one likes the crud!
Back from the Board meeting. I did speak but the young man who has been covering the meeting didn’t make it. They sent a young lady instead. At least she used a pad and pen and wasn’t playing games on a computer.
OB, he could have been taking notes on his phone or iPad and just be a poor typist! Our preacher used to think some adults were texting in church, but really were reading along with him using the bibles they have downloaded onto their phones. I have Blue Letter Bible on my iPod and take notes, so it really does look like I’m playing games, too. For something truly important, I’d stick to pen and paper or a tape recorder.
“Young lady using pad and pen” what a novel idea. You think the editor got wind that things didn’t work out like they should have at the last meeting? That does tend to change things. :)
A little long, but completely worth the read in my opinion. This is in line with what we were talking about a couple of days ago with the schools. A perfect explanation of what’s wrong with relying too heavily on standardized test scores and a perfect explanation of what’s wrong with the ratings in the first place. They are not always good indicators of anything. From an article written by CPSD’s superintendent:
“But one school’s label will not reflect its actual score.
Clinton Junior High School, our seventh- and eighth-grade school, has been given a “C” rating under this model.
Clinton Junior High School has the unfortunate distinction of being too successful. I say this because CJHS has a QDI of 196 — just four points shy of the scoring benchmark to earn an A rating — but is being classified as a “C” rated school because it did not “meet growth” under the state’s accountability formula.
The accountability model takes into account test scores and also academic growth.
Schools earn rankings based on whether students receive a year’s worth of learning for a year’s worth of teaching. A school is determined to “meet growth” based on
student scores year after year.
The higher a school’s scores are in one year, the higher the benchmark will be for meeting growth the next year.
Because CJHS’ scores were so incredibly high last year, the accountability formula set a nearly impossible benchmark for students to meet growth this year.
For example, our eighth-grade students taking Algebra I did not “meet growth” although their QDI in this subject was 295 — just five points less than a perfect 300.
Out of the 74 students who took this test, 71 earned the highest possible score of “Advanced” and yet they did not meet growth.
We actually had several students whose predicted scale score on the Algebra I test was 685.723, with 686 being the highest scale score possible. When these students scored 682 (which at any other school would be major cause for celebration) they were said to have missed growth by -3.723.
Their projected scale score meant that if students missed even one answer on the test, they would not meet projected growth.
In Clinton, we appreciate that Mississippi’s accountability model for schools is very rigorous. It should be. But it should not be punitive for our highest achieving students.”
I know I’ve been MIA lately & I’m sorry. Been going through a lot, but then so has everyone.
Need the prayer chains to really crank up please! The prayers have been working extremely well so far – the cancer mass at the base of Orville’s skull has disappeared – praise the Lord!!
However, today he started down the toughest road on his journey to date. This morning he began receiving the shots to stimulate the release of his bone marrow stem cells. On Monday he will have a central line inserted into the carotid artery in his neck so the harvesting of his stem cells can begin that day. He’ll be hooked up to a machine that will take his blood from the central line, spin out the bone marrow stem cells then give his blood back to him. This process will take about 4 hours and will be done every day next week until they have enough to freeze. He will have 2-3 weeks to recuperate then will be admitted to the bone marrow transplant unit. He will undergo 8 days of intensive, high dose chemotherapy that will kill any remaining cancer cells in his brain, but it will also kill all of his bone marrow and immune system. He will be in critical condition at that point. They will then thaw his stored bone marrow stem cells and give them back to him so his body can start regenerating them. He’ll be in isolation at the transplant unit for several weeks (will be about 30 days total) until his immune system starts to return then continue isolation at home until about mid-January. Praying that once he makes it through all of this he won’t have to endure any more chemotherapy!!
Argggghhhh!! Not a happy camper! Our band director waited too long to register our kids for the Marching Honor Band. It’s full. I had to hop online and find 2 more tickets for the game so they could get in!! They are one row behind the other 4 I already have, but I don’t know what seats. AND they cost twice as much!
KO won their game last night but there was an incident after. From what I can gather the other team ran our kids off the field, the band members rushed to the buses. Can’t believe this is high school!
7:28 am
I have pizza dough rising in the oven to make little pizza bites to take to the family reunion. (Pizza dough balls wrapped around a slice of pepperoni, a cube of mozzarella and a bit of pizza sauce then baked)
The peanuts are ready to be consumed. I’ve made a gallon of peach tea. Mr. H has gone on a run and the girls are still asleep.
8:47 am. Woke up my usually time went back to sleep to wake up about 7:40 this morning. It is so beautiful outside. Hope you have a great time today MrsH. Going to have breakfast shortly at Shoney’s. Love, hugs, and prayers to us all. My you college teams come through for you today.
Hey, y’all. We’ve been riding around this afternoon after having the worst restaurant meal I’ve ever tried to eat. We were trying to figure out where to have lunch and ended up at AJ’s on Lakeland. We have eaten there before and everything was delicious, but today I made the mistake of ordering their shrimp and grits. BE had never eaten shrimp and grits, so he decided to order it too. We had the best hot artichoke appetizer we have ever eaten, served with deep fried pita bread triangles. Then we had a salad with feta cheese dressing which was very good, but the shrimp and grits was simply horrible, served in a basically tasteless yet spicy red sauce. I guess my shrimp and grits standards have been set too high because Char and Table 100 have wonderful shrimp and grits and I’ve been wanting to try the ones at Heart and Soul behind the Shell Station in front of City Hall in Brandon, but AJ’s totally dropped the ball on theirs. We brought nearly all of it home in go boxes and felt like just throwing it in the garbage and that’s a horrible waste of food, especially in this day and age.
You and me both Marshall. I hope you and everyone else has a fun day today. Morning!

Morning! Blues I couldn’t have given it you because I still have it!!
I got a call this morning that a close friend has died in D’lo. She has been battling cancer since 1994.
Wow, since 1994. Bless her, she gave it a valiant run.
She fought it so long her body was worn out.
Blues good to hear from you, sorry about that type Internet virus :(

There’s a sign in front of the local animal hospital that read:
“Be the person your dog thinks you are.”
You know, Blues, that’s a tough one to live up to!
Friday = trip to Starkvegas. Yippee.
We’re going next weekend for the Marching Honor Band. The game is against the University of South Alabama, which is about 30 minutes from my house :)

I haven’t forgotten about you and Orville. Keeping you both in my prayers.
Praying that this takes care of it all, CornPop. Sounds like it will be rough, but hopefully worth it.
God bless y’all, CornPop. Thanks for the update.
Wow! What a treatment regimen! Prayers for both of you.
I lift his name up in every prayer I pray.

Headed to Mendenhall early tomorrow morning for my friends funeral!
It a beautiful morning up here in the hills!
Change of plans, going today for wake tonight.
It’s a beautiful day here in these hills, too! Hubby called & is coming home today. Good thing I bought groceries yesterday.
Everyone must be in front of a tv watching football.
No such luck here, pm. Hubby is home & doesn’t like football that much. :(
Did you see the picture of the new Ramsey dog Pip?

If it had been cheap, it would have been one thing, but is was far from cheap.
Evening, been watching the Oxford massacre. The hotty, totty has gone potty
Today was a motorcycle day. The group I ride with had a fund raiser for Special Olympics. It was a fun time and productive as well.
