I didn’t have time to run this morning. But I did. I needed to get to my work. But I exercised instead. I really should’ve put my nose to the grindstone. I put in 3.33 miles anyway.
I wasn’t procrastinating (which I’m darn good at, I might add.) No, I knew my schedule today is insane. I just HAD to get my workout in. I needed the endorphins. I needed the time to wake up and clear my head. I needed the boost I get from running.
I stumbled through the woods and ran on the Natchez Trace Parkway for a few minutes (always dangerous when it is dark and still kind of dangerous when the sun is up). I came to a clearing and could see the whole southern part of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. There, along the dam, were streetlights blazing through the blanket of inky darkness. It looked like a string of brilliant pearls.
I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
