Sunday Morning Links: News and stuff
Watched Titanic last night and now am in the Christmas spirit. Ho Ho Jack doesn’t Float. My sons did say they were glad they watched it AFTER they went on a cruise.
•••••••••••••
Hope you’re having a good Sunday morning — here’s a quick look around at news and stuff.
Here’s the Sunday Free-For-All. Hop over there for discussion and friendship.
Weather: Enjoy one of the last days of fall. High of 55 and sunshine here in central Mississippi.
SO CLOSE: Delta State loses the D-II National Championship in a squeaker.to Minnesota-Duluth 20-17. We’re proud of you Fighting Okra football dudes. The Fighting Okra has to be one of my all-time favorite mascots.
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell no more: The Senate voted 65-31 repealed the Military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, opening the door for gay service members to get out of the closet.
Total Lunar Eclipse on the Winter Solstice. For the first time since 1378, there will be a total lunar eclipse on the first day of winter. It will be visible here in Mississippi as long as the cloud cover cooperates (forecast is for clouds as of right now).
Tensions remain high between the Koreas as the UN Security Council meets. South Korea promises to go forward with its live-fire drills. North Korea vows to retaliate. Pucker factor is now up to 8.
WASTE of FLESH update: “Jersey Shore’s” Ronnie is indicted on assault charge. Apparently good taste and intelligent people’s brains were assaulted during the first season.
Bank of America cuts off WikiLeaks payments.

Old guys back in the day
I’m number 82. The most of the rest of the guys I keep up with through Facebook. #44 is my sister’s husband’s brother. We’ve known each other since kindergarten.

Saturday Morning Links: A quick roundup of news and stuff
I feel about as disgusted about waking up early as Banjo is when he walks in snow (see picture).
Good morning! I spent most of the morning putting together a list of recent stuff I’ve written, so this will be a little shorter than normal. I need to go Christmas shopping soon and I want to beat the crowd. And myself with a hammer for waiting this late to get it done.
Today’s Free-For-All. Home of the MRBA and great conversation. What’s the MRBA? Join in and find out.
Weather. Who knows. Will it be hot? Will it be cold? You never know around here. Actually it will be in the middle — 52 with a slight chance of rain.
South Korea to hold live-fire drills in spite of North Korean threat to go nuclear. Soon that part of the world will be like Rudolph: You could even say it glows.
Bones found on island may be Amelia Earhart’s remains. It would bring closure to one of the 20th Century’s biggest mysteries, but would be a sad knowing that she died alone on an island.
The legacy of TRON. Wasn’t a huge TRON fan back in the day, but I do think the new movie looks cool. An anything that brings acting great Bruce Boxleitner back into the spotlight is quality entertainment.
Tax Bill (now law) Update: The President signed it and it included an extension of GO-ZONE legislation. Which is very good news for development in our area in this era of tight credit.
Oil Spill update: Gov’t report — not much subsea oil, but still tar mats in the area.

It’s five o’clock somewhere
He stared through the glass at the baby struggling in ICU. Christmas Eve. The man held his head his hands. The weight of the world was held up by his neck.
He was tired.
There would be no Christmas miracle for him and his newborn child this year. A few hours before, he had seen his soul mate go through a living hell. Now, he was alone with his newborn son and a four-year-old daughter while his wife struggled in Intensive Care. Would she survive? Would his newborn survive? How would he tell his daughter about today? He wasn’t so sure he understood himself. Christmas would forever be scarred for his family.
He realized that Santa would have to come that night. Santa. Oh — all the things he wanted Santa to bring him. His wife back would be a nice start. “Dear Santa, could you please allow her to open her eyes?” he thought. He clutched her cross in his hands and looked up. He’d have to appeal to a higher power.
Three in the morning is a quiet time of the night. Even the criminals are in bed at that late hour so he had the town to himself. His daughter was asleep with her grandmother’s house in the suburbs. The baby was wired in the hospital’s pediatric wing a few blocks away. His wife clung to life in ICU. Santa was busy making his rounds on the other side of the world; he would never remember a newborn child. The weary father ducked into a liquor store to help the Jolly Ol’ Elf out.
That morning, Santa did come. His daughter was awash in a sea of pink toys at her grandma’s. The baby received a shot glass with “It’s five o’clock somewhere” printed on it’s side and a deck of playing cards from Santa. (and a little help from a liquor store. ) The father walked into his wife’s room and saw her clinging to life. He dropped to his knees, gripped her hand and clutched the cross with all his might and said, “Merry Christmas.”
Her hand gripped his back.
Santa did come that cold Christmas morning. Wishes did come true. And thirty years later, the whole family sat at the dining room table and celebrated that Christmas Miracle. Each made a toast to life with an old shot glass that had “It’s five o’clock somewhere” printed on it’s side.

Choices
I got mad about a situation today. Very mad. It’s one that I did nothing to bring about, but is really hurting my family. I had two choices: I could have stayed mad or done something about it. I chose the latter.
And, amazingly, I feel so much better now.
We’re a product of our choices. I’m chosing the positive, proactive route every time. My family deserves nothing less.

Yard art
A few little guys done for Madison Avenue Elementary. They projected characters from the T-Shirt I designed for them and painted them on plywood.
