Today’s cartoon. What a way with words.
Flipped between the NFL draft and American Idol last night. Both were wonderful displays of talent soon-to-be rewarded (and America’s insatiable appetite to be entertained.) I pulled for Fletcher Cox and Skylar Laine, two of Mississippi’s latest stars. I felt a tinge of jealousy for all the people who were about to be showered with wealth. And then I remembered that they were there because they worked their butts off to get there. That they took their talent and worked hard at it. They kept working hard even after every discouragement life threw at them. Yes, I was on my couch wanting success. If truth be told, being on the couch is the last place I’d find it.
If you read my Fit-to-Fat-to-Fit Blog today, you will read about how I face-planted how I ran. As I lay bloody in the middle of the street, I thought, “OK, am I OK? Check. Mom isn’t coming to come kiss my boo boos. Time to get up and keep running.” Seems to be a pretty good life lesson there if you ask me. I’m sore but fortunate.
Today I’ll be doing a live remote in Oxford. Road shows are hard because of the travel. Time I’d do show prep is used to drive. And when you are wiped out, driving five hours to do a three-hour radio show is a challenge. But I’ll make it. Tomorrow and Sunday I’ll be at the Mississippi Children’s Museum, drawing for the kiddos. That’ll be fun. Also I’ll be weighing in a the Trademart with Patrick House.
Have a great Friday. I’m about to draw two cartoons, do a blog entry for one of my jobs (the C-L) and then hit the road. Like the guys on the NFL draft and American Idol, I’m going to put in some hard work.
