Time is doing something the Japanese or the Germans couldn’t. We’re losing World War 2 Veterans at an alarmingly rapid pace. Here’s the cartoon to go with this short story.

I’ve seen numerous of your “Welcome Home” cartoons, some for those who seem too young. I really do think this is my favorite. The thought of these reunions makes me smile through the tears.
Well done! Very fitting.
Terrific, Marshall!
wonderful.
Yes, before long there will be nobody, men or women who will remember World War II and it will be a sad day in our nation, because the youngsters just don’t appreciate the sacrifices those men in the foxholes made so they can breathe free on these shores.
Us “youngsters” are off fighting the war your generation allowed. I think we have enough going on now to help us appreciate the “freedom” the politicians you elected let us have. I have a feeling those men in the foxholes would be sorely disappointed with the way those freedoms they fought for and believed in have slowly disappeared under the guise of national security.
yes it is so true i am only 13 but i will honor them till i die
Your “The Final Day” cartoon really hit home. My dad passed away on June 2, at the age of 91. He not only was a proud WWII veteran but also was a Boatswain’s mate in the Navy, commanding four men on landing craft in the Pacific Theater. He spoke very little of his time serving his country and you just knew his frequent lifetime nightmares were war-related. When I was very young he once said he had trouble coming to gripes with his time in the Navy because he saw far too much death during those war years. Dad is now finally at peace.
